Parkhill School Music Department
Rationale/Mission Statement
In Broad General Education and in Senior Phase, the Music Department seeks to maximise the innate musical potential of all pupils by enabling each student to become an effective musical contributor - (both vocally and instrumentally) – to our music making.
Aims and Objectives
Singing for all is the primary aim of our class room practice and playing in the band is an attainable target for some successful learners.
Regular individual tuition/ practice on keyboard, drum kit, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, tuned/untuned percussion.
Systematic aural training forms an important part of our coursework in BGE and Senior Phase.
Our primary objective is for all pupils to enjoy participating in music making through listening, inventing, singing and using instrument(s) -solo and/or as part of a group (S1-S6) - on stage and in the wider community.
*Certification forms an integral aspect of our Senior Phase courses and students prepare for SQA National 2 “Using Performance Skills”; SQA National 3 and National 4 “Understanding Music” Units
In practice, students strive to become confident individuals through musical performances in the classroom, on stage and in the community: ultimately aspiring to responsible citizenship through their musical discipline.
